This past Saturday we decided to take a family drive on the Shenandoah Sky Line Drive
to see the fall colors and go hiking. The Sky Line Drive is nothing but beautiful scenery, awesome mountain views and tones of hiking and sight seeing. Plus did I mention it is 105 miles long and you can only go 35 mph. We started our journey at 9:30am in hopes to make the half way mark by lunch time and do some hiking. It was a partly cloudy day and being high in the mountains the temperature was great. Along the trail there are numerous amounts of stop off points for you to stop and admire the wonderful scenery.
The kids thought it was awesome in the beginning but come 11:30 there bellies were growling and boredom started to settle in. We finally made it to the half way mark around 12:30 to grab some lunch and the nice cafe they have. Had some yummy lunch. Now are bellies are full and we decided to go hiking to a waterfall that was 1.4 miles long. Jack actually walked all the way down to the falls and of course had to be carried all the way back.
Now by this time our camera batteries had died on us; don't worry we plan on buying new ones soon. We did however, have our video camera with us and hope to soon pull some pictures off that.
After hiking the trail the kids were nice and tired and ready for a nap. Which meant that Justin and I could enjoy the rest of the drive without complaining. And it was GREAT!!!!GREAT!!!!GREAT!!!!
Come 5pm we were down off the mountain.
Now when we first started this journey we had plans to head back home right afterward but we decided what the heck, lets make a weekend out of this. Of course we had no clean clothes with us or any over night accessories. We found us a hotel and can I say thank goodness for Wal-Mart.
Now I will have to stop my blog here because the following day was even better. We went to the Natural Bridge and then made it to one of the many, many caverns VA has here to offer. But like I said our camera was dead and all we had was are video camera and pictures are a must.
As soon as I get those pictures and plus the ones from when we went to Cox's Farms I will post them. But for now you will just have to wait.

I am living vicariously through you. What a fun weekend!!
Shad and I always toy with the idea of just staying sometime when we go somewhere, glad to see we aren't crazy.
That looks beautiful. I'm always envious to see families be so active when I feel my family is so boring.
What a funweekend. Your so lucky tolive so close to the mountians. We did 2 caverns and the natural bridge this spring, and we planned to do the skyline drive, but we ran out of time with everything we kept stopping to see. Now I'm glad we decided to do it a different time. By the time we went back to the hotle the girls were stir crazy and jsut wanted to jump around, there isno way we would have been able to maintain sanity for that long of a drive (I had asumed it wouuld only take 2 hours). The picture all look great.
